Alter Ego by Simon Ruschmeyer is a haunting story about a beauty and a beast. Ruschmeyer decided to film this story in an old unoccupied sanatorium used as a facility to treat long-term illnesses. He explored the mindsets that people would have in the sanatorium, and used this as his guidelines for the two contrasting characters.
The stylist Laura Büchel adorned the actress Jördis Richter in contradicting outfits. When Jördis Richter played the diseased creature, her body was painted in a white, cracked paint resembling reptile skin. When Richter played the graceful beauty, she was dressed in a rich red gown.
Ruschmeyer has done a phenomenal job giving each character different qualities, and the end result is a unique project that explores the mindsets of the subconscious and superego.
