This repurposed air-raid daycare center situated in Stuttgart is the brainchild of Birk Heilmeyer and Frenzel Architekten. Built atop a pre-existing site, the new design boasts bright colors of red and green, which reinvigorates the area with positivity. The two-storey layout provides multi-use spaces for both parents and children and includes an outdoor playground.
To construct the new facility, the designers opted for a lightweight and prefabricated timber structure. Located in the heart of the Park Villa Berg, the daycare is run by KiTa Parkstrasse. The building's red color makes it highly visible in contrast to the greenery surrounding it, which doubles as a safety feature. The red also has historical significance; it references the red shutters of the neighboring Raitelsbergsuedlung from 1928.
