In October 2015, the man-made footprints and flags on the moon will be joined by a titanium can of Otsuka, in an attempt by the Japanese beverage company to advertise on the moon. There may not be much of an audience up there, but talk of sending a can to space is sure generating some interest here on Earth.
The can will be filled with a kilogram of Otsuka's Pocari Sweat powder and silver disks detailing the aspirations of 38,000 children, with the hopes of inspiring the next generation to become astronauts.
The can will be rocketed to the moon's surface by the Falcon 9 rocket over a four and a half day trip and landed by Astrobotic Technology, as part of their own attempt to win the Lunar X competition by Google—there's a $20 million prize for the first company to land a device on the moon that can travel on its surface and send back high-definition pictures to Earth.
