YouTube is Updating its 'Shorts' Service with New Monetization Options

YouTube is updating its 'Shorts' service in order to provide more monetization options for users that upload YouTube Shorts. Prior to this change, Shorts existed in a space on YouTube where they were excellent for discoverability and reach, but were less preferable than a standard video, as Shorts had very little monetization comparatively.
YouTube identified that this was the key area it needed to change in order for its Shorts service to take off, similar to other short-form video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels, which both pay partnered creators for videos based on view count and watch time. According to YouTube, the Shorts feature pulls in roughly 30 billion views per day from 1.5 billion unique users per month, making it one of the largest online media platforms to date.
