The XAN House by MAPA is a Timber and Concrete Paradise
Vasiliki Marapas — April 11, 2014 — Art & Design
Brazilian-based design studio MAPA has unveiled the XAN house, an impressive concrete-and-timber residence located in Xangrilá, Brazil.
The homes most distinctive marking is the slatted timber that encases the exterior. The home also features a single-story concrete wall that provides extra privacy from the street. The rest of the walls are comprised of floor-to-ceiling glazing, allowing the home owners to better appreciate the landscape. Moreover, the upper level features wrap-around balconies that double as over-hangs, covering both the front entrance and rear patio.
Inside, the architects chose to differentiate between the ground and upper floor by showcasing different materials in each. Generally, the overhead ceilings are exposed concrete, while the flooring is made up of tiles that continue outside.
