Feltman’s of Coney Island Just Created the World’s Largest Hot Dog
Katherine Pendrill — June 28, 2019 — Lifestyle
Everyone knows that Coney Island is the ultimate destination for hot dogs and now the spot is truly living up to its reputation as the home of the world’s largest hot dog. The oversized frankfurter is the work of Feltman’s, which claims to be the inventor of the original hot dog back in 1867.
In order to set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest hot dog, the team at Feltman’s cooked up a hot dog that measured five feet in length and two feet wide. The end result was a sausage-bun combo weighing more than 66 pounds. After the hot dog was officially measured and weighed for the record books, the whole thing was cut up and smaller portions that were sold to customers. The money raised was then donated to Headstrong Project, which is a non-profit organization that provides mental health care to veterans.
