World View is undertaking actions to launch a large number o balloons into the stratosphere with built-in sensors. The balloons will be used to take high-resolution images of the ground throughout both North and Central America. World View is hoping to launch the balloons during the summer, and the company previously ran test flights in order to optimize the navigation features.
Following the success of the test flights, World View indicates the balloons are ready to be used over a longer period of time.
The balloons would be at a lower altitude than many of the satellites that we rely on for imaging purposes. This means the balloons could be able to get more detailed images of the ground.
