In Utrecht, Netherlands, a three-way collaboration formed the fish doorbell, also known as the Visdeurbel. The Municipality of Utrecht works together with the Waterboard De Stichtse Rijnlanden and Water Authority Amstel, Gooi, and Vechy to build the doorbell.
It invites a global audience to pass through the underwater world using a live-streaming camera that is submerged by the lock. Viewers can join in online and spot fish swimming by -- they can also virtually ring the doorbell, which then notifies a lock operator to observe the situation and open the lock if there is a dish at the door underwater. Additionally, this also helps fish who are migrating avoid predators in the area and move efficiently.
