Amy Duong — March 16, 2024 — Art & Design
Architect Ben van Berkel creates the Van B housing block in Munich. Van B's design is defined by its pixelated exterior clad that is comprised of concrete panels made by manufacturer Rieder. These panels have an ivory color for a minimal look and are meant to be a model for adaptable urban housing in the city. It is found in the city's Kreativquartier in SChewabing-West and is paired with outdoor and communal spaces.
Rieder explains, "Just as modern living space should be flexible and sustainable, Rieder's concrete facade solutions also follow the principle of 'individual, straightforward and durable. The mix of different nuances and textures is what makes the glass fiber-reinforced concrete facade product stand out. Copper-colored metal and rough concrete skin elements prove to be an unbeatable team in the facade design of Van B."
