The Sauvage Distillery Debuts the Apple-Based 'Upstate Vodka'

The Sauvage Distillery has debuted a new ‘Upstate Vodka,’ a spirit purely distilled from New York State apples. The spirit is gluten-free and Kosher, and each bottle contains 70-80 local apples from one of 700 orchards in the New York area. ‘Upstate Vodka’ is a sweeter and much smoother spirit compared to vodka made from wheat or grain, boasting a creamy soft apple taste that is best enjoyed over ice or in a cocktail. The apples are pressed into a liquid and then fermented with Kosher yeast in 16 and 18-plate two-column stills.
In compliance with the strict gluten-free certification requirements, ‘Upstate Vodka’ is made with no chance of gluten cross-contamination so a broader range of people can enjoy it.
“A vodka like this takes time, not technology,” says Sauvage Distiller Ken Wortz. “Making vodka from grain is surely less expensive, but we’re committed to a truly handcrafted product and, at its core, an agricultural product. “
