Atelier Deshaus Completes the Upper-Cloister Buddhist Temple
Amy Duong — February 11, 2023 — Art & Design
Chinese architecture studio Atelier Deshaus recently finished the Upper-Cloister Buddhist temple and meditation complex. It is found in the Jinshan Mountains by Beijing, resting by a valley that is by the ruins of the Great Wall of China.
The temple complex is made up of a series of spaces that are arranged on stepped platforms along the sloping mountain terrains. The goal was to fuse together elements of the natural terrain with architectural expertise in response to the historic landscape of coal mining and terrace farming. The studio explains that "The new construction not only communicates with the ancient Great Wall in time and space but also fits into the topography and wilderness of the valley."
