Uber Eats Has Launched a Robot-Controlled Autonomous Delivery Service

Uber Eats has launched a new food delivery service that is fully autonomous, relying on robots to carry out deliveries without the need for human intervention. Alongside Serve Robotics and Motional, Uber Eats will begin delivering small orders from select merchants to test out the program.
Challenges that come with autonomous delivery in California include permits that allow the company to charge for the service. So far, Motional only has a permit to test with safety personnel on board during the trip.
Customers that live in areas where the program is being tested will be able to select the autonomous delivery option at their Uber Eats checkout page. The normal tracking services will operate as usual, and customers will be able to unlock the autonomous car with a code from their phone when the order arrives.
