As eco-friendly furniture made out of recycled materials becomes more and more mainstream, they will undoubtably start to make more pop culture references like this Tyred Custom Chair. Inspired by the work of iconic pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, it is fun, colorful and completely hipster.
Created by Yameng Li, the Tyred Custom Chair is part of a larger Tyred project in which recycled tyres are fashioned into one-of-a-kind pieces by designers and artists in South Africa. Although Li is lives and works in Milan, Italy, she was one of ten who were given the opportunity to make a Tyred Custom Chair.
With a clear African reference, this particular Tyred Custom Chair has a lot of cultural relevance. It is currently being shown at the Love from Africa shop in Amsterdam.
