Design studio Space Available teamed up with techno DJ Peggy Gou to create a chair made from plastic trash. The team collected the materials used to manufacture the chair from streets and waterways in Indonesia to find sustainable alternatives for discarded plastic.
Each chair boasts 20 kilograms of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packaging. Space Available's chair design boasts an under-seat compartment in a nod to Gou's personal vinyl collection. A hypnotic spiral pattern is hand-designed and made from melter plastic that covers the chair's surface. Founder of Space Available, Daniel Mithcell, explains that while plastic recycling is an important step towards sustainability, "banning single-use plastic is the only way" to make an environmental difference truly.
