This portrait series by Belgian photography student Farida Lemeatrag captures the beauty and humanity of young trans people.
Lemeatrag worked hard to establish trusting relationships with the 25 trans people she has photographed so far as part of the series. She does so by recognizing and exploring the struggles trans people face when it comes to identity, relationships and social acceptance. In 2013, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights found that 38% of trans women and 34% of trans men had experienced or been threatened with violence and that only half of trans people were in positions of paid employment.
In the gorgeous black-and-white portraits, young trans people are posed and photographed with beauty, grace and empathy. The images show the humanity and strength that lies in all people, regardless of gender expression.
