The Spirit of York -- A Toronto-based distillery that makes spirits -- has shifted its focus to produce hand sanitizer during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company plans to use the alcohol from its facility to produce alcohol-based sanitizer that meets the standards presented by the World Health Organization. The sanitizer will be available starting March 19th, with proceeds being donated to community members who are dealing with food insecurity during this time. In an official statement, the distillery stated that "Using our facilities to produce hand sanitizer seemed like a perfect way to support the public while also giving back to more vulnerable communities.”
The Spirit of York has always been devoted to community initiatives, with 10% of its usual proceeds being donated to cultural institutions such as The Art Gallery of Ontario, The Canadian Opera Company and The National Ballet of Canada.
