When a prowler robbed artist Melanie Willhide's apartment, she dedicated her latest photo series, 'To Adrian Rodriguez, with Love' to him.
Instead of wallowing over the loss of many of her possessions, the Los Angeles photographer was inspired to create a collection of psychedelic, color-streaking portraits.
Showing at New York City's Von Lintel Gallery, this collection replicates the distorted photos that were recovered from the artist's laptop which was stolen during the burglary. A collection of family and wedding captures were corrupted and upon realizing they could not be fixed, Willhide learned how to recreate the look of the damaged photos.
The shots appear to be a mix of both vintage and present-day photographs that effectively combine black and white with vibrant color.
Willhide feels that the photos in the exhibit 'To Adrian Rodriguez, with Love,' are a representation of the past that was stolen from her and how that will affect her future.
