MAD architecture Studio Designed the Cloud Center Cultural Space
Elena Rahman — July 8, 2021 — Art & Design
MAD Architecture Studio designs the Cloud Center. The company unveiled its designs for the multi-purpose cultural center set in Qinhuangdao, in northeastern China. Designed to resemble a "floating cloud by the sea," as MAD explains, the Cloud Center will accommodate the arts and culture community.
Boasting 3,853 square meters, the site will house several functions. This includes a theatre space, a conference room, exhibition spaces, and a cafe. Surrounded by a sculpted landscape, the building's undulating form is informed by clouds and space. Tappered walls line the walkway and gradually increase in height as they approach the center. Angled glazed walls will characterize the building and an amorphous over-hanging roof clad in white-stained glass creates an ethereal floating appearance.
