Tesco's Strawberries and Cream Sandwich is One Confusing Combo
Jaime Neely — June 28, 2011 — Lifestyle
To celebrate Wimbledon and the beginning of the summer season in Britain, Tesco has created a strawberries and cream sandwich. The unlikely combination of British strawberries and clotted cream is stacked on top of one another in between two slices of poppy seed bread.
The strawberries and cream sandwich by Tesco is certainly the first of its kind and is the result of the company experiencing its "biggest crop of home-grown strawberries for at least 20 years" (Mirror.co.uk).
Tesco hopes that the sandwich will evoke proud British patriotism amongst its citizens as this treat is very common and popular. I'm very curious as to how this trio of flavors would fare outside the British Empire.
Implications - Consumers are much more likely to invest their time and money in products with which they share a personal connection or close relation. A company that generates feelings of familiarity through their products will fare well in today's industry.
