The Stone Gate art installation is something out of a sci-fi movie. In fact, it might bring cult tv show 'Stargate' to mind. That is because it takes on an epic circular shape just like the gate featured in the show. Even if it wasn't similar, the Stone Gate leads people to believe that it is a portal to some other world.
Created by Raffaello Galiotto, the Stone Gate explores the balance between mass, weight and gravity. A self-supporting structure held together with nothing more than compression, it is made up of dry-laid hewn Bardiglio nuvolato marble stones, each one weighing 500 kilograms for a total weight of 27,300 kilograms. It was exhibited at the 100% Gravity exhibition in Verona, Italy.
