Think about the state of hospitals in the poorest regions of Africa, and consider that many of them have hardly any adequate equipment. The Standing Carton is a resourceful, economical, eco-friendly and truly intelligent Red Dot concept that provides established and impromptu clinics with necessary items.
Designers Shi Lei, Hong Yujie, Yan Xinlin, Zheng Cheng, Wu Xiaoyun and Liu Liyuan have suggested that when drugs are sent to areas of illness outbreaks like cholera, the medications can be shipped and delivered in cardboard boxes that offer a second use. Once the supplies have been emptied, one needs simply cut along the obvious dashed lines to end up with a pair of tall hourglass-shaped panels. When slotted together, they form the Standing Carton, which acts as a sturdy holder for IV bags.
