Large and sinuous, like a Boa constrictor, the Spun Bench is just as strong even though it might not look like it. Made out of carbon fiber, the Spun Bench may weigh just under 10 pounds, which seems almost impossible, but it is stronger than the average seat. Upon closer inspection, however, logic reigns supreme as people note the mesh-like metal exterior and hollowed insides.
Created by Danish designer Mathias Bengtsson, the Spun Bench was inspired by his original Spun chair, which was designed a decade ago. Commissioned by curators at Industry Gallery in the District of Columbia, the Spun Bench is essentially made out of 12 Spun chairs that have been weaved together into a figure eight.
