Phong Bui is the artist behind 'Spaced Out: Migration to the Interior,' an exhibition held at Red Bull Studios in New York City. In the words of Bui: "There’s a re-emergence of interest in what psychedelic means." With this in mind, the artist revisited culture from the 60s and 70s, but in an immersive environment that includes a contemporary take on psychedelic themes as well.
As a backdrop to paintings and installations, the intriguing exhibit used pink shag carpets on walls, dizzying rainbow stripes on the floor and lighting to emulate the effects of a hallucination. This quirky, immersive exhibit on psychedelic art was housed at Red Bull because this building provided great bones for the experience that Bui compared to an Austin Powers movie set.
