The 'SmokeBot' is a new piece of equipment for emergency responders to utilize when entering a burning building to ensure that they can do their job without having to deal with the effects of smoke.
The robot works by utilizing the power of a 3D radar camera, a stereo thermal camera and a LiDAR unit to effectively see through dense clouds of smoke. This enables firefighters to make their way through a burning building with more control to ensure they can get inhabitants out safely without fuss.
The 'SmokeBot' has been developed by a consortium in Europe lead by the Örebro University in Sweden and could effectively work to increase the capabilities of firefighters by limiting the number of tasks they need to accomplish.
