Adorably Sleepy Nightlights

Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

'Sleeping I' Has Light-Up Eyes That Slowly Close as Kids Fall Asleep

— August 17, 2016 — Life-Stages
Children who have trouble falling asleep at night will love the empathetic 'Sleeping I,' an absolutely adorable nightlight from designer Jeongdae Kim. The timed device starts at full brightness for when parents leave their children's rooms, and slowly gets dimmer while giving off the appearance of a cartoon character falling asleep.

The light is shaped like a squat cartoon chick, with lights that look like two wide eyes and a beak-like nose that functions as a wind-up timer. Parents turn the timer to set the length of the nightlight's activity, and then leave it be. Over the next hour or so, the device dims by closing plastic "eyelids" over the lights, making it look as though the Sleeping I is falling asleep in sync with its ward.
Trend Themes
1. Empathetic Nightlights - Empathetic nightlights like 'Sleeping I' that mimic the natural process of falling asleep provide a calming and soothing experience for children.
2. Timed Light-up Devices - Timed light-up devices, such as 'Sleeping I,' offer parents a controlled way to help their children fall asleep and establish a bedtime routine.
3. Cartoon-inspired Sleep Aids - Cartoon-inspired sleep aids, like the adorable 'Sleeping I' nightlight, create a playful and inviting sleep environment for children.
Industry Implications
1. Children's Sleep Products - The market for children's sleep products, including empathetic nightlights, is expanding as parents increasingly prioritize sleep solutions for their kids.
2. Home Decor and Lighting - The home decor and lighting industry can explore the development of timed and interactive nightlights to cater to children's sleep needs.
3. Toy and Entertainment - Toy and entertainment companies can capitalize on the demand for cartoon-inspired sleep aids to create engaging and comforting products for children.
