'Shiok Meats,' a Singaporean cell-cultured foods company known for its alternative shrimp and fish-based foods, announced a new partnership with 'Mirai Foods' to bring cell-cultivated beef to the Singaporean market. Mirai Foods is a food tech company based in Switzerland with extensive research into alternative meats.
Through the partnership, the two companies will work to create a high-quality cultivated beef product. Shiok Meats noted that this requires Mirai Foods' bovine muscle cells and fat stem cells in order for the resulting beef to be indistinguishable from real cow-based beef. According to Mirai Foods, it sourced its original cells from non-genetically modified premium cattle, meaning each batch of cultivated beef should replicate this quality.
The CEO of Mirai Foods, Christoph Mayr, stated “Partnering with a Singaporean company is particularly interesting for us given the country’s strong distribution and partnership network across the Asia Pacific region, which has been showing a growing appetite for safe, high-quality beef," noting that there is a rising demand for cultivated meats in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region at large.
