With the Discovery Channel's ever-popular Shark Week about to commence for a 27th time, water treatment solutions company Avoca Water has put together a handy Shark Week infographic that charts the highlight of the annual television extravaganza and looks forward to the highlights of the 2014 edition.
The first ever episode of Shark Week aired back in 1988. The 1994 edition saw Peter Benchley, author of the book Jaws -- which was later turned into a successful movie franchise -- become the show's first ever celebrity host.
The Shark Week infographic also traced the most top-rated Shark Week programs in history. Taking the top spot was 2013's Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives. Speaking of Megalodons, the prehistoric shark is named in the infographic as being the largest shark ever -- it grew up to 18 meters.
