Local design studio Wutopia Labs designs the Shanghai Book City, which is a renovated bookstore in Shanghai, China. It is defined by its dynamic facade that is formed of perforated metal sheets that have overcome a renovation from what was once a more traditional bookshop. Now, it is more of a cultural hub and a space for the public.
Project architect Chen Lin speaks to Dezeen about the facade, stating, "The perforated aluminium facade pattern is based on a bird's eye view of Shanghai at night, including the Huangpu district, the Bund, the Huangpu River and the Pudong district.
