Architecture firm Parallel Studio designs Mariam's Library which is a children's library located in Zanzibar. It is defined by small holes that form seamless ventilation. As a result of this feature, it forms shadows that adorn the books inside of the space. This was constructed with the help of the local Beit Ras School and came to fruition after Mai Al Busairi, founder of the studio visited the space and noticed that there was a need for more reading facilities.
Parallel Studio speaks about the design to Dezeen, stating "Mai Al Busairi collaborated with the local community and the school principal to understand their requirements, identifying the absence of books and adequate facilities as the primary concerns. This led to the conception of Mariam's Library, aimed at enhancing educational prospects for students in Zanzibar."
