Sthapotik Designs the Shah Muhammad Mohshin Khan Mausoleum
Amy Duong — April 10, 2023 — Art & Design
Architecture studio Sthapotik designs the new Shah Muhammad Mohshin Khan Mausoleum, which is a reference to traditional Islamic buildings. It is made up of a series of cylindrical skylights that are complemented by brick turrets. This brick section is designed as a shrine or Dargah, which is home to the graves of local religious leaders and their families.
Sthapotik talks about this, noting that "Meaning 'portal' in Persian, a Dargah is a home for the grave of a revered religious figure. Metaphorically, the Dargah is the home for the earthly body." It is inspired by the look of the chandelier as the top of the mausoleum has a ceiling of the aforementioned skylights to stretch down towards the space.
