Crafting Plastics Studio works in collaboration with DumoLab Research on the Sensibiom 2 installation, which highlights a biomaterial that alerts people to 'an invisible threat.' To do so, it changes colors as a response to UV radiation, and the project is meant to explore more sustainable approaches. The installation is constructed from algae- and cellulose-based composite materials that are infused with photochromic pigments to be able to change color and reverse.
Vlasta Kubušová, the co-founder of Crafting Plastics speaks to Dezeen, explaining that "Sensbiom 2 is part of an ongoing project called Sensbiom (Senseable Material for Healthier Habitats), where we aim to explore the programmability and dynamic capabilities of future materials to become environmentally active and 'senseable.' One of the primary objectives is to create healthier materials that can communicate the invisible threats in our surroundings."
