Approached by a couple with three kids that desired a calm getaway from the city, Hampshire-based firm Ström Architects conceptualizes a seaside vacation home that is the epitome of modern design. The plot "overlooks the Solent, a 20-mile strait of water that divides the Isle of Wight from mainland England."
The contemporary seaside vacation home is spread out in a single storey structure that is elongated and rectangular. The volume is constructed with stained larch wood and its darkness contributes to an exceptionally sleek elegant aesthetic. Tapping into the surrounding nature, Ström Architects leaves the front of the house open and fully glazed. In addition, the seaside vacation home is situated at the highest point possible in order to avoid floods.
