In an effort to reduce the environmental pressures on the oceans, Schouten Europe announced the launch of 100% plant-based fish sticks later this month. The launch follows the brand's plant-based tuna earlier this year as speaks to the growing demand for vegan seafood substitutes, which the brand attributes to new documentaries coming forward depicting the dangers of overfishing.
"Schouten has always been a forerunner in the meat substitutes market, and we are now also a forerunner in the fish substitutes market. We want to develop sustainable and tasty alternatives that reduce the pressure on the oceans. We expect to add another three fish substitutes to our product range before the summer", says Product Manager Annemiek Vervoort.
