The Rainforest Guardian Skyscraper by China-based designers Jie Huang, Jin Wei, Qiaowan Tang, Yiwei Yu and Zhe Hao hopes to save the Amazon rainforest. The conceptual design combines skyscraper, forest-saving and eco-laboratory elements into one giant lotus-like building in the middle of the Amazon rainforest.
Unlike typical skyscrapers, this behemoth building has the most surface area at the top, so it can catch and store rainwater for the dry season. The internal laboratories will allow scientists to monitor the climate, as well as invite tourists to become more aware of the condition of the rainforest.
The building is both organic and futuristic in appearance. The long artery-like hanging roots make the building look other-worldly. The design received an honorable mention at this year's eVolvo Skyscraper Competition. This building would actually be helping nature, compared to structures that tear down natural ecosystems.
