To mark the 20th anniversary of the Nunavut Territory, a new Royal Canadian Mint coin has been released in Nunavut-sourced gold. The 99.99% pure gold collectible coin features Germaine Arnaktauyok's drummer design, which first appeared on the $2 circulation coin that was released in 1999 to celebrate the creation of Nunavut.
The celebratory pure gold coin proudly recognizes Canada's newest territory—which changed the face of Canada as it is known today—following decades of negotiation between the Inuit and the federal government. The coin is struck on a thin blank that offers more room to appreciate the design.
