Replanting a plant can be a traumatic experience for them that can easily cause damage, so the 'Roots Protector' has been designed to help make the process easier for gardeners and less invasive for plants.
Created by icamp Product Design, the cage-like protector works by being positioned over the roots of a plant before being placed into a container. This will work to protect them as they grow and require a larger vessel, while also being ideal for transitioning plants from the nursery to the wild.
The protector is 3D-printed with PLA bio-filament that will start to biodegrade over the course of two to three months as the plant grows. This will allow the protector to break down and decompose naturally to not restrict the plant.
The 'Roots Protector' is the winner of the 2020 iF Design Award.
