Nissan's Rear Door Alert Lets Drivers Know If They've Forgotten Anything

In the summer heat, leaving things in the back seat of one's car can be a nuisance or worse, and Nissan's new Rear Door Alert system hopes to nip that understandable absent-mindedness in the bud. The system offers both dashboard alerts and multiple horn honks to notify drivers if they've left anything in their back seats.
Whether something that's simply a pain (like a pan of lasagna that can leave one's car smelling like tomato sauce for days) or something that's far more serious, leaving something in the back seat of one's car is a problem. Two Nissan engineers, who are also mothers, opted to tackle the problem head on, and the result is the Rear Door Alert. The system recognizes if the rear door was opened and closed prior to a trip, and if the door was left closed after the vehicle was later put in park and the ignition turned off, it activates a series of warnings.
Rear Door Alert will debut on the upcoming 2018 Nissan Pathfinder SUV.
