Known for his mashups of popular culture icons, artist Butcher Billy has done it again with his series of post-punk superheroes.
Redesigning the covers of heroes such as Aquaman, Batman and Wonder Woman, the artist imbues each of these childhood cartoon classics with the styles and characteristics of rockers from the post-punk movement. Batman, for example, has the smoldering eyes, burning cigarette and wavy background of Ian Curtis from Joy Division, and The Flash rocks the red conical hat and nerdy yellow glasses of Mark Motherbaugh of D.E.V.O. among many other fun character mixtures.
In this amazing amalgamation of post-punk superheroes, artist Butcher Billy also includes a popular line from each of the bands' most well-known songs which explains why The Flash is prompting us to "Whip it! Whip it good."
