Pizza Hut has announced its plans to use an AI technology that will recommend orders to its customers based on the local weather. The hope is this new in-house AI technology will help the company better understand its customer base.
The company is in the early stages of developing this new technology but hopes to use it to understand how location, weather, and behavior affect its customers. In 2016, Pizza Hut launched its Digital Ventures team. This group of tech experts is in charge of developing this new AI technology. The company stated they chose not to buy an off-the-shelf AI product as they prefer to build a technology that is specific to its business. They have not yet released how the weather will play into this technology.
Pizza Hut is not the first fast-food company to introduce AI technologies. Many of its competitors - like McDonald's - have already invested in such technologies.
