Luke Shepard, a student at the American University of Paris manages to make viewer's hearts thump faster than kissing their love on the stairs of Montmartre for the first time, with his video Le Flâneur. Many have gazed at pictures of Paris and wondered, "Can a city get anymore beautiful?" The answer is, "Oh mon dieu, yes." This is a city where its true charms and beauty are truly illuminated by night, when the tourists are in bed and the traffic has stopped. Experiencing this side of Paris has been reserved for in-real-life moments because photography and videos have struggled to do it justice, but Luke Shepard certainly shows the city of romance in a stunning light with Le Flâneur.
This time-lapse video captures Paris by night with over 2,000 photos. It's done with a Nikon D90 camera and mixed over 'Intro' of the XX, making the aural experience tantamount to the visual. Just look at the Bateaux Mouches move like glowing lady bugs crawling up and down the Seine!
Shepard was inspired to capture Paris by night because he loved walking from one end to the other when things were quieter. "I feel as though this video shows this other side of Paris that I love. I feel that not everyone sees it, especially not tourists who usually only explore by day."
