The Off-Ground installation is like a playground for adults. As adults, who lead much more hectic, responsibility-ridden lives than children, the perfect playground would be a place for rest and relaxation. But instead of taking on the semblance of a serious retreat, the Off-Ground installation is much more casual, not to mention urban. PSFK points out, "The installation also means to question how playgrounds are usually designed with only children in mind."
Designed by Amsterdam-based award winning designers Jair Straschnow and Gitte Nygaard, the Off-Ground installation looks as though it were comprised of revamped swings. But instead of swings, people are invited to lounge in hammock-like seats. These seats have been created out of recycled materials such as rejected fire hoses. This makes it as eco-friendly as it is playful.
