There is a reason why mold makes people's noses wrinkle up in disgust -- it is a survival instinct; yet, Ninela Ivanova wants to show people a different side to this rotting process. She has created a whole collection of haute couture using moldy bread as a basis for her patterns. It is clear that mold really can be beautiful. Even after acknowledging that Ninela Ivanova's collection is inspired by mold, the clothing can only be considered beautiful.
As a recent grad of Kingston University's fashion M.A. program in London, Ninela Ivanova was partly inspired by a Russian documentary about mold. By transferring fungus patterns that she grew herself onto draping chiffons and silks, Ninela Ivanova has created a line that is organically beautiful. Three of the pieces even feature live spores safely enclosed in PCV.
