Takashi Murakami is known for his vibrant anime-inspired pieces and collaborations with celebrities and luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton, and now, the Japanese artist has created his first NFT artwork. During the pandemic, the artist observed his children playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons and saw that the virtual world was changing the way people interact. As the artist describes, "They were watching some fireworks display within the game while talking with their school friends, who they could no longer meet in person, through Zoom, admiring how beautiful it was."
Murakami worked with Yoshihisa Hashimoto to explore the future of virtual art and the result is being introduced with a series of 24 x 24 pixel art in the form of the artist's signature smiling flowers. There are 108 variations to represent "earthly desires in Buddhism."
