In an effort to better integrate NFC contactless payments on college campuses Blackboard will leverage the use of Apple products to create a “seamless experience” across campuses. Announced in a recent press release, Blackboard claims it is the first campus credential provider to utilize Student ID NFC contactless payments through iPhone and Apple Watch. This new capability will officially launch with Duke University, University of Alabama, and the University of Oklahoma.
According to Blackboard, a majority of US college students use Apple devices. This research served as the basis for its NFC contactless payments as it looked to leverage existing Student ID accounts to streamline the college purchasing experience. The contactless payments will be able to be used at all vending machines, dining halls, laundry facilities, and even off-campus retail locations that accept student IDs as payment.
