This neo-brutalist concrete house in Ahmedabad, India was designed and built by local studio The Grid Architects. The silhouette of this residence truly turns heads with its planted terraces and sculptural exterior. Originally, brutalist architecture emerged during the 1950s and the post-war period in the United Kingdom. The neo-brutalist aesthetic, or New Brutalism/Modern Brutalism, is a revival of the sensibilities of the preceding movement, with an emphasis on functionality in architectural design.
The neo-brutalist concrete house by The Grid Architects is called 'Beton Brut' and it was designed for an entrepreneur who wanted a living space that enabled privacy, as well as bigger family gatherings on occasion. Interestingly enough, the studio used "the image of an Indian woman protecting her head and face from the sun with the drapes of a traditional sari" for inspiration for the building's forms.
