Motto is the name of a new social dating app from Joel Simkhai, the founder of Grindr. Just as Grindr brought online dating to gay men with a pioneering geosocial network, Motto sets itself apart as a sex-positive dating application for queer folks looking for casual meetings.

Unlike many dating apps that connect users to endless singles nearby, Motto only displays five to 10 profiles per day. With a smaller group of users shown to other Motto users daily, the intention is to offer higher quality experiences for connection. Notably, on Motto, “no headless torsos” are permitted and each profile is required to have at least three face images. Currently, the app is live in New York City and Miami so that queer folks can find a match with less frustration.
