Like its product packaging, Dermalogica's new mono-material pump is made from polyethylene so that the bottle and pump can both be easily recycled at the end of their usable life. The lightweight pump uses less virgin plastic and it helps to bring the brand closer to its goal of having all of its bottles designed for reuse, recycling or composting as of 2025.
To create this sustainable beauty innovation, the brand worked with packaging expert Aptar. Already, the mono-material pump has been recognized by the Association of Plastics Recyclers Meets Preferred Guidance Program and RecyClass.
In 2022, Dermalogica will be integrating recyclable pumps into its top-selling facial cleansers. Unlike the majority of plastic pumps on the market that rely on metal springs, this new mono-material pump uses a plastic spring made of recyclable polyethylene for ease of recycling.
