In the process of working on a new Art Deco-inspired collection of rugs, Inigo Elizalde Rugs was hit with a source of inspiration for its next modern rug design collection. While the Art Deco-style rugs were being developed, a power surge caused a computer glitch that caused the creation of discordant digital patterns. Rather than simply seeing this as an error to be ignored, the team drew inspiration from the geometric elements for its 'Glitch' collection.
Although Glitch takes design cues from the flaws that can occasionally occur on computers and other digital gadgets, the rugs are 100% handmade in Nepal with luxurious natural fibers like nettle, cactus and bamboo.
Even through glitches and other system malfunctions can be disastrous, the design industry has come to embrace them in low-tech products.
