HGR Arquitectos Creates the MO288 to Combat Earthquakes
Amy Duong — August 12, 2023 — Art & Design
Local design studio HGR Arquitectos completes the MO288, which is a triangular concrete construction in the form of an apartment block. This is finished with rounded corners and is meant to combat earthquakes in Mexico City with its natural structure.
The namesake nods to the building's address as it is made up of 15 apartments and two commercial spaces over six stories. It is located in the Cuauhtémoc district of the city. The studio explains that "Together with the foundation slab and the concrete load-bearing walls reinforced on the ground floor, they work synchronously with the brick and concrete load-bearing walls on the upper levels. All the spaces were well ventilated and illuminated, but try not to have large openings due to the noise of the road that adjoins the building."
