The 'Super Mario World' has been re-created in various forms, but there aren't many Super Mario homages quite like this.
Artist Tobias Wüstefeld used the skulls of various animals skulls as landscapes of various levels in the Super Mario World. At first glance, the skulls are barely noticeable since most viewers are going to focus on the Super Mario levels, but it only takes a few minutes to notice the morose platforms. The creepy Super Mario-themed display features various monsters that Mario and Luigi battle. The animal skull displays are currently being showcased at We Love 8 Bit Art Show in Vienna, Austria.
Video games and death aren't common mash-ups in the world of art, but death definitely is a theme that artist like exploiting.
